Cici

Cici, written and directed by Berkun Oya, is a Turkish drama that begins in Central Anatolia in the 1980s and continues thirty years later, when the same family reunites at their old farmhouse. Because the story spans two timelines, different actors play the characters young and old; the family's mother, Havva, is played by Funda Eryiğit in her youth and Nur Sürer in old age. Director Berkun Oya is best known for the series Bir Başkadır; Cici is his first feature film since that series and continues his signature use of long, static shots. The film was shot in the İznik district of Bursa, largely in a farmhouse built specifically for the production. Who it's for: anyone curious about the television director behind Bir Başkadır moving to feature film with a family drama that hands the same characters to different actors thirty years apart. Who it's not for: those wanting fast cutting and dense dialogue, since the film leans on the director's signature long, static shots.
