What Cinema Sabaya Is About
Eight women take part in a video workshop. Some of them are Arab and some are Jewish. The workshop is held at a community centre in a small town. It is run by a young filmmaker named Rona. Each participant is given a camera. Each of them brings back footage shot at home. What they film is their own daily life. The footage is watched together in the room. As they watch, the distance between them starts being spoken about. What each of them takes for ordinary comes into the open. The prejudices arrive on the table one by one. The women have to question what they believe. The wall between them comes down slowly. The film plays out almost entirely in the same room. Dana Ivgy and Aseel Farhat appear in the ninety five minute film, a Belgian and Israeli co-production Orit Fouks Rotem finished in 2021.
