What City of Dreams Is About
A Mexican boy’s dream of becoming a footballer is cut short when his mother dies. He is smuggled across the border on the promise of a better life, but something else is waiting where he arrives: he is sold as a worker to a sweatshop in downtown Los Angeles. The film gives child labour and trafficking not as news from far away but as an arrangement running inside a large city. The account also uses the boy’s dream as the measure of what has been taken from him. Ari Lopez and Diego Calva appear in Mohit Ramchandani’s hundred and fourteen minute film, completed in 2024.
