What Cloudburst Is About
John Graham, a Canadian back from the Second World War, works in London as a code breaker. Two criminals speeding away from the scene of a murder hit his pregnant wife Carol, and she dies. Graham cannot manage the grief or the anger; he decides to find the two men himself. His trade has given him an ability an ordinary person does not have, and this time he uses it on his own account. The film speaks from inside the dark British cinema of the postwar years and shows revenge not as a solution but as something that eats away at the man too. Robert Preston plays the lead in Francis Searle’s eighty three minute British film, completed in 1951.
