Clouds

In Minnesota, the high school student Zach Sobiech's bone cancer becomes terminal and the doctors are counting months. Zach starts making music with his closest friend Sammy Brown. The song they write, Clouds, takes off unexpectedly. The film peaks at a combined prom, concert and fundraiser where Zach performs with almost nothing left. It covers 2012 to 2013 and the story is true. Justin Baldoni directed and produced. Fin Argus plays Zach, Sabrina Carpenter plays Sammy and Madison Iseman his girlfriend, with Neve Campbell as his mother and Tom Everett Scott as his father. It was to be released in cinemas by Warner Bros; the pandemic sent the distribution rights to Disney and it went up on Disney+ on 16 October 2020. It was removed from Disney+ in May 2023. Rotten Tomatoes sits at 83 percent from 23 reviews. One assessment wrote that it manages to be sentimental while showing both the heartbreak and the hope. After the film the song went back to number one on iTunes, seven years after Zach's death in 2013. Who it is for: viewers who like teen drama built on real events and stories carried by music. Who it is not for: anyone who avoids emotional films about illness. The ending is known from the start and the film works openly toward it.
