What Cochochi Is About
Evaristo and Tony are brothers. They live in the Sierra Tarahumara in northwest Mexico. They belong to the Rarámuri people. Both of them are finishing elementary school at a boarding school. When the school closes they go home. Their grandfather gives them a job to do. They are to carry medicine to a relative in another town. They set out on their grandfather’s horse. At one turning they take the wrong road. Then the horse gets away from them. While looking for it they are separated as well. Each of them is left alone in the mountains. The two do not see their future the same way. Evaristo loves studying. Tony is closer to the traditions he grew up in. The film opens that difference out inside the mountains. Evaristo Lerma Batista and Antonio Lerma Batista appear in the eighty seven minute film, a Mexican, British and American co-production Laura Amelia Guzmán and Israel Cárdenas finished in 2007.
