Cold Moon

Simon and Dede are close friends who spend their days drinking. Simon lives on unemployment benefit in a caravan parked beside his sister’s flat; Dede works nights at a fish packing plant. Neither of them is young, sensitive or good-looking, and the only thing they really have is an inability to be shocked by anything. The film comes out of Charles Bukowski, and the sequence people argue about is the one dealing with the abuse of a dead body; that section is in fact Patrick Bouchitey’s short film, which won the Cesar for best short fiction in 1990, dropped into the feature as a flashback. Luc Besson’s company Les Films du Dauphin produced it, and it competed at Cannes in 1991.
