Cottontail

Kenzaburo has lost his wife Akiko. A letter is left behind. In it Akiko asks something of them. She wants her ashes taken to England. The place is Lake Windermere. It was where she loved most as a child. Kenzaburo sets out with his son Toshi. They travel from Tokyo to England. Things between father and son were already not good, and the journey brings that out. Kenzaburo is working through his own past at the same time. In England they meet a father and daughter, John and Mary, played by Ciarán Hinds and his own daughter Aoife Hinds. The film is Patrick Dickinson’s first feature and he wrote it as well. Lily Franky, Ryo Nishikido and Tae Kimura appear in the ninety four minute film, a British and Japanese production released in 2024.
