What Court: State vs. A Nobody Is About
A nineteen year old boy is arrested for talking to his girlfriend. The girl's family is powerful and the complaint is filed under a child protection law that allows detention without evidence. The boy is inside, the case is in court and nobody takes the file seriously. The young lawyer Surya takes it. Against him stand the girl's uncle, the standing of the town and a verdict already written. Through the hearings the question is not what the crime was but who the law is being used against. Ram Jagadeesh wrote and directed; it is his first film. Priyadarshi Pulikonda, Harsh Roshan, Sridevi Apalla and Sivaji are in the cast. Nani presents the film and Wall Poster Cinema produced it. It is an Indian production in Telugu. The film opened on 14 March 2025. It was shot on a small budget and took more than fifty seven crore rupees worldwide; measured against its cost it was the most profitable Telugu film of the year. The matter it treats is a protective law turned into a weapon; the film argues not about the law itself but about its use. The narrative stays tied to the courtroom and builds no showy set pieces. Priyadarshi has mostly played comedy; here he is the lead and he is serious. The film establishes caste and class difference without stating it outright. The narrative shows the girl's own will and does not make her only the subject of a case. The ending closes on the verdict and stages no triumph. Its limit is rhythm; the first half is slow, the characters are built late, and the legal language is dense. Who it is for: viewers who like courtroom drama and Indian independent productions. Who it is not for: it starts slowly, the subject is heavy, and the ending is cool headed.
