What Dandelion Is About
Mark Milgard's film is set in a small town under wide fields and empty sky. Mason, sixteen, is growing up inside a family held together by silence: a distant father with rules, a mother managing the lack of communication with alcohol and pills. Meeting Danny, newly arrived in town, becomes something like an outside for both of them. Then there is a fatal accident, and Mason is taken away from his life for something he did not do. The film does not offer teenage love as a rescue, and it gives the indifference around them and the workings of the system equal weight. Vincent Kartheiser and Taryn Manning lead. The ending is left unspoiled here.
