Dasvidaniya

Amar Kaul is an ordinary clerk in Mumbai. Nobody notices him: not his mother, not the people at work, not the woman he loves. His one habit is making lists; every day he writes down what he will do and crosses the items off one by one. One day a doctor gives him a fatal diagnosis and he learns he has very little time. He sits down and writes one last list. Everything on the list is something he never managed in his life: to say something to his mother, to find the friend from his childhood, to speak to the woman he loves. Shashant Shah's film follows the items in order. Vinay Pathak has the lead and never asks for pity for the character; the man does not pity himself either, he only knows he is late. The title is a Russian word of farewell. The film did not do big business in India but found its own audience afterwards.
