What De Dominee Is About
Amsterdam in the seventies. Klaas, a grammar school boy from a well-off family, starts moving hash with a friend. The small jobs grow fast, and within a few years the largest network in the city runs through him. The man who dresses in black and lectures everyone around him picks up a nickname: the Preacher. The film is about a real person, the best known drug boss the Netherlands produced, Klaas Bruinsma, and is built on Bart Middelburg's biography of him, with the name changed on screen. Bruinsma was shot in a hotel car park in Amsterdam in 1991. The production was delayed for years: the director Gerrard Verhage was threatened by Bruinsma's former bodyguard.
