What Deep Breath Is About
David, who has come from the city, is staying with his uncle on a farm. He is taken into the drinking gathering of the village men and made to drink there. Drunk, he goes off to the forest to find his friend, and what happens that night turns into a violence that will change his life for good. The film is about how being a man is taught in the countryside and how hard that teaching can be. The account is short and in black and white; it carries the weight of that day rather than the incident itself. Damien Odoul’s seventy seven minute French film was completed in 2001.
