Dhadkan

Dharmesh Darshan's 2000 Indian film is about the aftermath of a love broken by family pressure. Anjali and Dev plan to marry, but her family marries her to the wealthy Ram. She begins the marriage unwillingly, and Ram's patience and courtesy gradually attach her to him. Years later Dev returns and says he wants her back, and from there the film becomes a story about choosing. What is interesting is that it builds a plot in which the one who stayed wins rather than the one who left, and does not present Ram as a weak figure. The melodrama runs high, with long looks, rain scenes and songs. The music drew great attention apart from the film. It is long and slow. Who it's for: viewers who like Indian melodrama and popular cinema of the early 2000s. Who it's not for: anyone expecting restraint; the film uses feeling to the end.
