Earth and Ashes

Dastaguir is an old man. With him is his five year old grandson Yassin. The boy has recently lost his hearing. The two of them have set out on the road. Where they are going is a coal mine. His son Murad works there. The road is long and rides are hard to find. Most of the time they walk. Now and then a lorry stops and takes them along. The man is carrying heavy news. A bomb fell on the village and the rest of the family are dead. He has to tell his son. All the way he thinks about how to open the subject. Abdul Ghani and Jawan Mard Homayoun take the leads in Atiq Rahimi’s Afghan and French coproduction of 2004.
