Edge of the Knife

The film is set in the north of Canada. The place is the islands of Haida Gwaii. The time is the nineteenth century. A fishing camp is set up for the summer. Adiits’ii comes to join his friends. His friend Kwa and Kwa’s wife Hlaaya are there. They have a young son. The boy looks up to Adiits’ii. He follows him everywhere. One day they go out fishing in a storm. The boy dies on that trip. Adiits’ii cannot forgive himself. When the community leaves for the winter he stays in the forest. Solitude and guilt change him. He turns into the wildman of his people’s stories. His friends set out to find him and heal him. The hundred minute film was shot entirely in the Haida language. Gwaai Edenshaw and Helen Haig-Brown’s Canadian film was finished in 2018.
