What Ek Chalis Ki Last Local Is About
An ordinary man misses the last suburban train. Stranded on the streets of Mumbai in the middle of the night, he falls in with a woman he meets in a bar and into a chain of events that will run until morning. A wrong bag, a wrong door, and trouble that keeps growing. Directed by Sanjay Khanduri, the film is a black comedy and takes place almost entirely in one night. The telling gives the night face of Mumbai, its gangs and its chain of coincidences at speed. Abhay Deol and Neha Dhupia take the leads; Nawazuddin Siddiqui, still little known at the time, is in the cast. It is an example of the new strain of low-budget Hindi cinema of those years.
