What El Colombian Dream Is About
The film is narrated by a child who says he is fourteen and who was never born. The crowd he describes is large: his own mother, a triangle between twin brothers and their cousin, the twins’ father and his new lover, a drug lord and his men, the lord’s wife who does not know who fathered her baby, a prostitute, and a hit man who wanted to be a poet. All of them collide around one enormous misunderstanding. That the narrator was never born puts a distance between the film and everything it describes. With fast cutting and coarse humour, Felipe Aljure looks at Colombia’s own violence. The hundred and twenty minute production was completed in 2005.
