Endless Borders

Ahmad is a teacher living in exile. His village is poor and sits on the Iranian border with Afghanistan. The people there are largely ethnic Baloch. Ahmad stays among them and teaches. One day he gets to know a family of Hazara refugees who crossed without papers. The family is under immediate threat from the rise of the Taliban to power. The more Ahmad listens, the more he questions his own measures. In the village, prejudice and dogma are dictating everyone’s life. The line between right and wrong is less clear than it looked to him. A love between two young people has been forbidden. Ahmad decides to protect it. That decision could have grave consequences for him and for the village. The film puts both sides of the border inside the same fate. The borders in people’s heads matter as much as the one on the map. The way the teacher sees things does not stay the same. Pouria Rahimi Sam and Minoo Sharifi appear in the hundred and eleven minute film, a Czech, German and Iranian co-production Abbas Amini finished in 2023.
