What Escape from Fort Bravo Is About
A Union camp in Arizona during the Civil War, holding Confederate prisoners. A Southern woman draws the attention of its hard commander and gets her fiance and his men out. In the desert things change: the escapers and the officer chasing them end up pinned in the same ground by an Apache attack and have to work together to survive. John Sturges would make The Great Escape years later, and his interest in escape narratives starts here. The Native people in the film remain the faceless threat standard to westerns of 1953.
