What Eye of God Is About
In a small Oklahoma town a boy is found by the lake, bloodied and unable to speak. Since he cannot say what happened, the sheriff sets about finding the root of it, and the trail leads to Ainsley DuPree and her new husband Jack, recently out of prison. Tim Blake Nelson made his first film from his own stage play and built it out of broken chronology rather than a straight line, so that where two separate lives intersect only becomes clear at the end. Violence, religion and poverty are not separable here. Martha Plimpton, Kevin Anderson and Nick Stahl play it; it premiered at Sundance in 1997.
