Faith in the Impossible

Ernani Nunes's 2025 Brazilian film is adapted from a real event. An American pastor living in Rio de Janeiro was attacked while running in 2012 and seriously injured. She was hospitalised with almost no prospect of recovery. The film centres on the response of her husband and family through that period. Her husband Philip shared the situation publicly and it grew into a wide network of prayer. What the film argues is stated openly: faith can produce an outcome outside medical expectation. That sets both its audience and its limit. The narrative is built in a religious frame and the medical process stays secondary. The emotional pitch is high and the music runs constantly. Dan Stulbach and Vanessa Giacomo take the leads. Who it's for: those who like faith-based drama and films adapted from real events. Who it's not for: viewers expecting a detached view of the subject; the film argues one interpretation.
