What Fighter in the Wind Is About
Born in Korea under Japanese occupation, Choi Bae-dal stays in Japan after the war hoping to become a pilot, and finds that the only road open to him is martial arts. In a country where being Korean means being treated as second class, he goes from dojo to dojo defeating established fighters one after another. It is here that he develops his own understanding of karate: a style built not on aesthetics but on the shortest route to a result. The man in the film is real, later known as Masutatsu Oyama, founder of Kyokushin karate. Yang Dong-geun leads.
