Fly, Daddy, Fly

Jang Ga-pil, an ordinary working man in his forties, comes home one day. He learns that his daughter has been sexually assaulted by several boys from her school. Among them is Kang Tae-wook, the school’s boxing star. Ga-pil has neither connections nor money, and sees that the law will get him nowhere. He tries something on his own and fails completely. At that point a student named Go Seung-suk offers to teach him to fight, in forty five days. The film does not offer revenge as a solution; it tells of a man dealing with his own helplessness. The powerlessness of an ordinary person before the law is the real subject. Lee Moon-sik and Lee Joon-gi appear in Choi Jong-tae’s hundred and twelve minute South Korean film, completed in 2006.
