What Forbidden Love Is About
Eighteen year old Georg and thirteen year old Barbara are neighbours who have played together since childhood, and when the closeness between them grows the matter is taken to court. This is not a relationship a thirteen year old child can consent to, and the law sees it that way as well; the film, for its part, calls the affair a forbidden love. The weight of the story sits on the reaction of the parents, the school and the court. How a small place looks at itself in the last months of East Germany is part of the story too. Julia Brendler and Hans-Peter Dahm appear in Helmut Dziuba’s eighty six minute production, released in 1990, a few months before the country ceased to exist.
