Forbidden to Forbid

Three young Brazilians try to help a gravely ill woman living in one of the poor quarters of Rio de Janeiro. Their intentions are good and their belief is complete. But what they run into is the way the city actually works. Police violence shows them the point where good intentions get no answer. The relations among the three of them change in the process as well. The film does not make fun of youthful idealism; it shows where it jams. That the person who wants to help also belongs somewhere is the real subject. The account offers no solution. Caio Blat and Maria Flor take the leads, with Alexandre Rodrigues also in the cast. Jorge Durán’s hundred and five minute film, a joint Brazilian and Chilean production, was completed in 2007.
