Liam Page, a country singer known across the country, walked out on his fiancee on their wedding day eight years ago. When he hears a friend has died he goes back to the town in Louisiana. He runs into Josie and learns she has a seven-year-old daughter, and the child is his. Bethany Ashton Wolf directed, from Heidi McLaughlin's novel. Alex Roe plays Liam and Jessica Rothe plays Josie. Roe trained for nearly three months to play guitar and sing convincingly for the part. It opened with 4.7 million dollars domestically and reached 16.4 million in total against a 3.5 million budget, turning a profit. The reviews were largely negative. Rotten Tomatoes sits at 25 percent, the consensus calling it a suitably picturesque placeholder for romance fans between Nicholas Sparks films. Metacritic sits at 36. Audiences gave it an A on CinemaScore. Who it is for: viewers who like country music and small-town romance. Who it is not for: anyone expecting a real reckoning with what the character did. The film forgives Liam very quickly and gives little room to the anger of the person he left.
