What Fortunella Is About
Nanda Diotallevi is a poor woman. Everyone calls her Fortunella. She lives in the second hand dealers’ quarter of Rome. She believes she is a prince’s daughter. That belief is what keeps her going. She is with Peppino, one of the dealers there. Peppino gets involved in handling stolen goods. When it comes out, Fortunella takes the blame. She goes to prison to save him. She serves her sentence and comes out. Outside she finds Peppino with another woman, Amelia. The screenplay was written together by Federico Fellini, Eduardo De Filippo, Ennio Flaiano and Tullio Pinelli, with music by Nino Rota. Giulietta Masina, Alberto Sordi and Paul Douglas appear in the hundred minute film, a French and Italian production Eduardo De Filippo finished in 1958.
