What Foster Boy Is About
Michael is a successful lawyer, and the court assigns him a case he does not want: a suit against a for-profit foster care company. His client, Jamal, is a young man who grew up in that system and is now in prison. Jamal does not trust his lawyer, and the lawyer does not want the case. Both of them have to start from the beginning. Matthew Modine plays the lawyer and Shane Paul McGhie plays Jamal in Youssef Delara's film, with Louis Gossett Jr. also in the cast. The film does not show the abuse the children suffered; it tells the consequences and the reckoning in the courtroom. Its purpose is plain: it objects to a foster care system built on profit. It is put together like a closing argument.
