Tõnis Pill's 2025 Estonian film follows Paul, thirteen, who arrives in an unfamiliar town after a serious incident of domestic violence. He knows no one and makes quick decisions. Each decision makes things a little worse. The film offers no adult figure to rescue him; instead an odd friendship with a disabled man in the town changes the course. The cast are young and inexperienced. The images are cold and shot in natural light. The violence mostly stays outside the frame. Who it's for: viewers of Nordic realist drama. Who it's not for: viewers for whom domestic violence and neglect of a child would be difficult.
