Freddy

Freddy Ginwala is a dentist. He is in his thirties, has no friends, builds model aeroplanes at home, and struggles to talk. At a wedding he meets Kainaaz and attaches himself to someone for the first time in his life. Kainaaz has her own story and her own troubles. As the relationship goes on, something else emerges beneath Freddy's quiet surface. Shashanka Ghosh turns a romantic opening into a thriller. The idea behind the narrative is that it is easy to make loneliness endearing, but the same loneliness can turn into something else. The film deliberately places the audience facing the wrong way and turns them around at the midpoint. Kartik Aaryan plays Freddy, in a role entirely unlike his known comic work. Alaya F plays Kainaaz. Who it's for: Viewers who like Indian thrillers, character-driven psychological narrative, and films that change genre. Who it's not for: The violence in the second half is harsh and some scenes are disturbing. The writing of the woman is also shaped to the narrative's needs.
