Gold or Shit

Wu Di is in his forties. He tried to write screenplays in Beijing and it did not work out. The relationship ended too. He gives up on holding it together and goes home to his family's flat. The place is small: mother, father and sibling inside the same four walls. He looks for work and is turned away at every door. Then he runs into Feng Liuliu, whom he knew at school; she works at the local television station and suggests making a documentary about the state he is in. So the film starts shooting a film inside itself. Long Fei directs the Chinese film; a hundred and three minutes, with Hu Ge and Gao Yuanyuan in the leads. The generation that could not hold on in the city and went home is a frequent subject in recent Chinese cinema; this one looks at it with a smile and offers no easy way out.
