Golden Chicken

Kam has been working in the trade in Hong Kong for years. One night she is locked inside an ATM vestibule with an inept thief who has just tried to rob her. Neither of them will get out before morning. Kam starts talking: how she began, which tea house, which high-class brothel and which massage parlour she worked in, and how the city changed each time. The film is really a history of Hong Kong: the money of the eighties, the handover in the nineties, the crisis of the two thousands all pass through Kam's work. Samson Chiu does it as comedy, but the comedy thins as the story goes on. Sandra Ng plays Kam across twenty years and won best actress at the Golden Horse awards in 2003. Names like Andy Lau and Eric Tsang appear in short parts. Two sequels followed.
