What Grave of the Fireflies Is About
This is not the famous Ghibli animation of 1988. It is a Japanese live-action television adaptation from 2005, running two and a half hours. Its real difference is this: it tells the story from the point of view of Hisako, the aunt who takes the children in. Hisako loses her home in Tokyo to bombing, her husband is at the front, and she evacuates with her two children to near Kobe. When Kobe is bombed her relative is killed and that woman's two children fall to her as well. Starvation and the deaths of children are in it, and the aunt is not made into an easy villain.
