Guelwaar

The film is set in Senegal. Pierre Henri Thioune is a man involved in politics. The people around him call him Guelwaar. He criticises a system that leans on foreign aid. What he says unsettles certain circles. One day he is found dead. Something goes wrong with the burial. His body is mistaken for another. A Christian man is buried in a Muslim cemetery. His family learns what has happened. They ask for the grave to be opened. The official process drags on. Two communities come face to face. Disagreement breaks out inside the family too. The film takes up the matter with humour as well. Abou Camara and Mame Ndoumbé Diop appear in the one hundred fifteen minute film, a Senegalese, French, German and American production Ousmane Sembène finished in 1993.
