Hanami

The story takes place on a volcanic island. The island is remote and its means are few. Most of those living there are looking for a way to leave. Nana, though, is learning to stay. Her mother Nia left the island when she was still a baby. The child grows up with her father’s family. One day word comes that Nia is ill. In the same period Nana starts running fevers. She is sent to the foot of the volcano for treatment. What she sees there lies between waking and dreaming. The account turns magical in that stretch. Years pass and Nana becomes a young woman. In the end her mother comes back to the island. Sanaya Andrade and Daílma Mendes appear in the ninety six minute film, a Cape Verdean, Portuguese and Swiss production Denise Fernandes finished in 2025.
