Hero of My Time

Zhorik moves to Kyiv hoping to make his life better. His hopes are high, but the city does not receive him the way he expected. What he meets are everyday difficulties, bureaucracy and corruption. The film tells these not as a great drama but in a tone close to comedy. The daily reality of Ukraine is the real subject. The account shows Kyiv not as a city of opportunity but as a series of obstacles. The wall that someone from the provinces runs into in a big city is what the story rests on. The eighty minutes are spent following a single person. Evgen Bushmakin and Oleh Shevtsov appear in Tonya Noyabriova’s Ukrainian film, completed in 2018.
