Hockney

The documentary takes up David Hockney. Hockney is a painter. The film looks at his work and his personality. He opens his own archive to the director. In the archive are photographs and films. Most of them had never been shown before. The camera goes into his studio as well. Hockney still paints there every day. The account goes back to his early years in Bradford. It then comes to the circle of British pop art. The years he spent in California are inside the account too. His close friends speak in the film. Hockney lived openly as a gay artist. The years when the AIDS crisis took hold are inside the account too. Randall Wright’s British documentary of 2014 runs a hundred and twelve minutes.
