At dawn Clarisse takes one last look at her sleeping husband and two children, hesitates over whether to leave a note, gets in the car and goes. On the road an unexplained connection to the house she left keeps running, as though she knows from a distance how her children are growing. Mathieu Amalric refuses to tell the escape straight, deliberately scrambling time and order, because leaving is not what the film is actually about and you work that out slowly. Adapted from a play by Claudine Galea. Vicky Krieps carries almost all of it, playing not what the woman is doing but what she is living through.
