Hollywoodgate

Ibrahim Nash'at's 2024 documentary was shot in Kabul immediately after the American withdrawal. Taliban forces took over a compound said to have belonged to American intelligence, and the camera is inside that transition. The condition of the film is permission. Nash'at filmed for a year knowing that what he showed was being supervised; the narrative does not conceal that limit and records what he was and was not allowed to shoot. What appears on screen includes abandoned weapons, aircraft and official ceremonies. The narrative adds no commentary; the gap between what is said and what is seen is left to the viewer. The documentary was argued over on grounds of filming ethics. Who it's for: those who follow documentary from conflict zones. Who it's not for: viewers expecting independently verified reporting; the film was made under supervision and says so itself.
