Holy Rosita

Rosita is a cheerful woman who very much wants a child. The people around her call this irresponsible, because they think she can barely manage her own affairs. When Rosita does become pregnant she decides to tell no one. The film does not present her wish as the problem; it looks at how the people around her answer that wish. Who decides which people are allowed to have children is the question lying under the account. The growing of the secret builds the tension of the story, and the cost of keeping it rises. The account does not turn Rosita into someone to be pitied; it keeps her a person inside her own life. Daphne Agten and Mieke De Groote appear in Wannes Destoop’s ninety one minute Belgian film, completed in 2024.
