What Hot Millions Is About
Marcus is a con man newly out of prison, and this time he thinks bigger. He gets himself hired at an insurance company as a computer expert; the firm is proud of the machine it has just bought. Marcus writes his own program into it and starts having it pay out to companies that do not exist. Nobody notices, because nobody suspects the machine. Peter Ustinov takes the lead in Eric Till's comedy and is one of the writers of the screenplay. Maggie Smith plays his neighbour, and Karl Malden and Bob Newhart the company's executives. The film makes its joke out of the years when the computer was new to the office: the machine is always right, and the human being only presses the keys. The tone is polite, there is no violence, and everyone is likeable in their own way.
