Hot Spot

Vignesh Karthick's 2024 Tamil film is made of four stories that connect. A director tells them to a producer, and each one presses on the producer's own thinking. What the stories share is the silence around sex. Consent, expectation inside marriage and young people's access to information are each taken up in separate sections; rather than instructing, the narrative leaves the argument open. Kalaiyarasan and Janani Iyer appear. The tone is comic in places and uncomfortable in others. The production is small. Who it's for: viewers of Tamil independent cinema and films that enter taboo subjects. Who it's not for: viewers who would be uncomfortable with frank talk about sex.
