Humans in the Loop

Aranya Sahay's 2025 Indian film follows Nehma, returning to her village. She starts again with her children and takes work labelling data for artificial intelligence. The job is marking objects in images. Nehma notices that what she knows about the forest does not match the answer the system expects; the narrative does not turn this into a critique of technology but makes you ask whose knowledge counts as correct. It is written from the view of an Adivasi woman. The tone is calm and the scale small. Her relationship with her daughter forms a second line. Who it's for: viewers of independent Indian cinema and of films that take up technology together with labour. Who it's not for: viewers expecting action or incident; the film proceeds through ordinary work.
