What HWY: An American Pastoral Is About
The film is an experimental work made by Jim Morrison together with three friends, with Morrison playing a hitchhiker. It was shot in the manner of direct cinema in the spring and summer of 1969 in the Mojave Desert and in Los Angeles. The account builds no plot; road, desert, car and city come one after another and the viewer makes the connection. Sound and image are not tightly bound to each other, which gives the film an uncertainty. Through its fifty two minutes nothing is explained, and nowhere is it stated where the film means to arrive. The American film by Jim Morrison, Frank Lisciandro, Babe Hill and Paul Ferrara was completed in 1970.
