I Am Potential

The film is based on a true story. Patrick Henry was born blind and cannot walk. His father Patrick John had imagined playing sport with his son. After the birth that picture is left behind. But at nine months the boy sits down at a piano. His gift for music shows itself quickly. By his high school years he is playing the trumpet too. Father and son find a new aim. The boy will join the marching band at the university. That means the father has to be part of it. He gets up early to keep up with the rehearsals. He pushes his son’s wheelchair himself. When the family finances tighten, he sells his car. The film puts the father’s labour at the centre of the account. The story is told in an inspirational register. Burgess Jenkins and Jimmy Bellinger appear in the ninety four minute film, an American production Zach Meiners finished in 2015.
