Iancu Jianu, Outlaw

The film covers a turbulent stretch running from 1788 to 1843. The events take place in Wallachia. Phanariot rulers hold power over the country. The people live under heavy and arbitrary treatment. Iancu Jianu refuses to bow to that order. His friend Mereanu is at his side. Together they plan raids. Their aim is to stand against the tyranny. What they do finds an echo among the people. Jianu becomes a symbol of resistance. His path crosses that of Tudor Vladimirescu. Vladimirescu leads the uprising of 1821. The two join the same side in a fight for independence. The film works within the shapes of the adventure genre. The historical background is set inside the scenes themselves. Adrian Pintea and Stela Furcovici appear in the ninety five minute film, a Romanian production Dinu Cocea finished in 1981.
