Idli Kadai

Murugan left the village and works in Dubai. He is rising in a company, he is engaged, and he does not think of going back. His father runs a small idli shop in the village; he opens early, cooks with his own hands, and has been in the same place for years. News comes and Murugan has to return. The land the shop stands on has caught the eye of a large food company. The father will not sell. Murugan is for selling at first; the arithmetic is plain and the shop makes nothing. Then he sees what is behind the shop. Dhanush writes, directs and takes the lead. Arun Vijay, Nithya Menen, Rajkiran, Sathyaraj and Samuthirakani are in the cast. The language is Tamil. The film opened on 1 October 2025 and went to streaming on 29 October. It was shot mainly in the Theni district; the music is by G. V. Prakash Kumar. The matter it treats is returning to a root; the film builds it not as nostalgia but as an economic decision. The narrative takes the difference between large food companies and small tradesmen as a direct subject. The father is at its centre and the gap between the two generations comes from there. Dhanush both directs and acts here; his work as a director numbers only a few films. The narrative holds long on the preparing of food and the kitchen scenes are detailed. Its limit is predictability; the narrative is conventional, the conflict familiar, and the ending where expected. Who it is for: viewers who like Tamil cinema and family drama. Who it is not for: it is long, conventional, and the ending sentimental.
