Island Etude

Ming-Hsang is in his final year at university. He is deaf and does not hide it. He wants to do something before he graduates. He decides to cycle around Taiwan. He carries his guitar on his back and little else. Along the way he meets all sorts of people. One an old teacher, another a worker he meets on the road. Every one of them has a story to tell. Some have left their home town and some never have. The coasts, the fields and the towns of the island pass in turn. The account is not chasing a great event. The journey itself is the subject of the film. In Taiwan the picture made cycling around the island popular. Tung Ming-hsiang and Yang Li-yin appear in the hundred and eight minute film, a Taiwanese production Chen Hwai-en finished in 2006.
