10 Days of a Good Man

Sadık used to be a lawyer and now works as a private investigator. He is to find a missing person. The job looks simple; a few addresses, a few conversations. But after the first door the situation changes. The missing man is a woman's brother, and there are gaps in the story she tells. The further Sadık goes the more the same names come up. His own past comes into it too; there are people in the city who know him and have something to settle. It takes ten days and every day brings another loss. Uluç Bayraktar directs; Mehmet Eroğlu and Damla Serim wrote the screenplay. Nejat İşler plays Sadık; Nur Fettahoğlu, Şenay Gürler, İlayda Alişan, Rıza Kocaoğlu and Erdal Yıldız are in the cast. It is a Turkish production. The film went out on Netflix on 3 March 2023 and was announced as the first part of a trilogy. The source is Mehmet Eroğlu's novel; the author worked on the screenplay as well. The second film went out on 18 August of the same year and was made by the same team. The matter it treats is exhaustion; the lead is not a hero but a man thinking of stopping. The narrative uses Istanbul at a documentary distance and the places are not touristic. Nejat İşler carries the character by saying little and the narrative rests on his face. The narrative follows the shape of the crime film and opens its turns late. Its limit is structure; it moves slowly, the side lines are scattered, and the ending ties into what follows. Who it is for: viewers who like Turkish crime films and character driven thrillers. Who it is not for: it is slow, sombre, and the ending does not close.
